How to have multiple people edit a document inside of a CHAT in Microsoft Teams
(Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files only)
- Upload the office file into the direct chat, where you want to collaborate.
- You can choose the ‘Attach files’ option to upload the file from OneDrive
or locally
, or just drag the file into the message box.
3. After you have attached your file, it will display in your message box first.
4. **IMPORTANT STEP** Before sending the file to your chat members, please ensure that the members have the appropriate permissions to collaborate. You can click ‘People in your organization with the link can view’ to check and set permissions.
5. When you click the ‘People in your organization with the link can view’, you will see the settings page below. In the ‘Share the link with’ section, you can choose who you want to share the file with. I recommend selecting ‘People currently in this chat’ as your first choice. In the ‘More settings’ section, you can click the down arrow to specify whether they can ‘Can view’ or ‘Can edit’ the file.
6. After you finish setting permissions, you can send the file to your chat members in the direct chat. When the file opens, the upper right corner will display the user permissions, and members can check them for themselves.
Now you can collaborate on this file with chat members in this direct chat.
